Built for the forms that actually turn up

Some PDFs have proper form fields. Most do not — they have underscores, ruled lines, boxed grids and a scan of a scan. TypePDF handles all of it.

If the PDF already has AcroForm fields, they are used directly and filled properly, so the values survive in other readers.
Underscores and ruled lines
The classic “Name: ______”. Text is placed after the label and sits on the line rather than through it.
Boxes and table cells
Empty cells in a grid become fields you can tab through, sized to the cell.
Tick boxes and options
☐ Male ☐ Female becomes a set of controls. Radio groups only let one answer through.
Signatures and initials
Draw with a finger or mouse, type your name in a script face, or upload a photo — the background is removed for you.
Scans with no text

Everything runs in the browser: reading the PDF, detecting the fields, rendering the pages, and writing the finished file. Your documents and signatures are stored in this browser’s own storage, which means two things worth knowing — nobody else can reach them, and clearing your site data deletes them for good.

Is TypePDF free?
Yes. Every feature is free and there is nothing to buy. There is no account to create and no trial that expires.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. Reading the PDF, detecting the fields, rendering the pages and writing the finished file all happen in your browser. Your documents are stored in this browser's own storage, which means nobody else can reach them — and clearing your site data deletes them.
Can I fill a PDF that has no form fields?
Yes, and that is the point. Most printed forms have underscores, ruled lines or boxes rather than real form fields. TypePDF finds those and puts your text on the line instead of over the label. You can also click anywhere on the page and start typing.
How do I sign a PDF?
Pick the signature tool and draw your signature with a mouse, trackpad or finger, type your name in a handwriting typeface, or upload a photo of your signature — the background is removed for you. Save it once and reuse it on the next document.
Does the finished PDF open properly in other apps?
Yes. TypePDF writes a real PDF: your text goes in as selectable text, real form fields are filled as form fields, and the page size and layout are unchanged. The original file is never modified.
Can I fill a scanned PDF?
Yes. A scan has no text to read, so nothing is detected automatically, but every tool still works — click where you want to write and type.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The editor works with touch, including drawing your signature with a finger. A larger screen is easier for long forms.
Do I need to be online?
Only to load the page the first time. After that the work happens on your device, so a dropped connection will not lose what you have typed.
